Project description

As part of London Underground’s Integrated Stations Programme, Liverpool Street Station underwent significant upgrade works to improve passenger flow, enhance public area lighting, and support overall station modernisation.

London Underground provided the base electrical lighting design; however, we were responsible for the design and delivery of the DALI lighting control system, taking the scheme from initial concept through to detailed design and implementation.

The scope of works included the following:

  • Design and installation of a new DALI lighting control system for Ticket Hall B.
  • Installation of approximately 400 new DNO, LUL and OLBI LED luminaires within Ticket Hall B and associated passageways, incorporated into a bespoke ceiling system.
  • Replacement of the existing 110V station lighting system within Ticket Hall B, Metropolitan Line platforms, and Central Line platforms.
  • Installation of a new primary Cable Management System (CMS) route through Ticket Hall B to support lighting, 110V, communications, and small power systems.
  • Provision of new small power supplies for Way Out signage, communications assets, and advertising signage within Ticket Hall B and the Metropolitan and Central Line platforms.
  • Installation of new station-wide main earthing cabling between the station intake and various switch rooms.
  • Replacement of distribution board PAN assemblies throughout the station.
  • Installation of new dual-fed communications node changeover panels to support wider communications upgrade works.
  • Installation of new back-of-house lighting to storerooms and the pump room.
  • Removal and strip-out of approximately 300 redundant luminaires following Bringing Into Use (BIU) of the new lighting system.

Health and Safety

Implemented rigorous Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) planning, ensuring all identified risks were appropriately assessed, controlled, and mitigated throughout the project lifecycle.

Programme Management

Developed and executed a robust programme of works to ensure all project activities were completed safely within restricted engineering shifts, with no disruption to the operational railway.

Innovation

Design & Installation of a Bespoke Dali Lighting Control system within ticket hall B. Provision of operational staff training following the testing & commissioning phase of the project.
