Project description

Project Description

Delatim successfully delivered the M&E installation associated with a new cold smoke extract system at Down Street Disused Station, one of London Underground’s most unique and historically significant locations.

The project presented a number of complex engineering and logistical challenges due to the restricted access, confined working environment and operational railway constraints.

Our scope included the installation of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure associated with the new smoke extract system, including the installation of large smoke extract fans, attenuators, ductwork, electrical supplies, controls and associated equipment across multiple levels of the disused station.

Due to the size and weight of the equipment and the extremely restricted access, major components — including the extract fans — were delivered to site by engineering train. This required detailed advance planning and coordination around possessions, logistics, lifting operations, temporary works and installation sequencing.

The project required close collaboration between Delatim, our client and the wider London Underground project team to overcome the challenges presented by this unusual environment while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

The completed system provides an important enhancement to London Underground’s infrastructure and demonstrates Delatim’s ability to successfully deliver technically complex M&E projects within challenging operational railway environments.
