Project description

Delatim delivered the Knightsbridge Step Free Access (SFA) programme for Transport for London (London Underground) across two phases. The project provided new step-free access routes, lift infrastructure, station enhancements and associated architectural, mechanical, electrical, communications and fire safety systems to improve accessibility and passenger experience at one of London’s busiest Underground stations.

Phase 1 comprised the design and fit-out of the Hoopers Court and Brompton Road entrances, including new lift access and associated station infrastructure.

Scope of Works
The project included:

  • Design and delivery of step-free access infrastructure.
  • Installation of blockwork lift enclosures and lift lobbies.
  • Wembley Innovation blockwork, beam and block flooring and screed works.
  • Floor tiling, rendering and wall finishes.
  • Design, manufacture and installation of bespoke metalwork and Bostwick gates.
  • Installation of AATi stair nosings and warm-to-touch handrails.
  • Airtight access hatches and powder-coated doors.
  • Mechanical, electrical, communications and fire safety systems.
  • Staff welfare facilities and locker room fit-out.
  • Switch room fit-out and communications upgrades.
  • Air-conditioning installation and condenser relocations.
  • Installation of automatic fire-release smoke doors.
  • Testing, commissioning and staged handover of all systems and assets.

What we did

Delivery

Delivered a complex, two-phase step-free access programme for a live London Underground station, encompassing new lift access routes, associated infrastructure, and full integration of assets into the existing operational network.

Health and Safety

Designed, constructed and commissioned comprehensive station systems and finishes, including communications, lighting, fire detection and life-safety systems, alongside extensive architectural finishes such as tiling, screeding, rendering and specialist metalwork, through to phased testing, handover and entry into service.

Programme Management

Managed complex stakeholder engagement and programme delivery in collaboration with TfL and London Underground, navigating significant design development, scope changes, and the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, utilising Matterport digital surveying technology to maintain remote design reviews and programme requirements throughout.
